๐ Apple Intelligence Explained: Smarter Siri, On-Device AI & Real Privacy (Part 1)
Everyoneโs talking about AI โ mostly Microsoft, Google, or ChatGPT. But Apple? Almost silent.
So I took a deep dive into Apple Intelligence โ what it is, how it works, and why it matters. Here's the important stuff, no sales pitch....
๐ What Is Apple Intelligence?
Appleโs new personal AI system in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. It powers:
Smarter Siri
Writing & summarization tools
System-wide intelligence
โ Runs mostly on-device using Appleโs own LLMs โ with no external servers involved unless needed.
๐ AI Comes in six (6) Flavors:
1. Foundation Models
2. Open-source AI
3. App-specific AI
4. Enterprise AI
5. Custom-trained AI
6. Edge/Embedded AI
๐ Where do Apple Intelligence fits in?
Well, in two of the categories:
๐น Edge / Embedded AI And Enterprise AI
Runs locally on iPhone, iPad, Mac
No subscription, no token limits
Built-in across system apps
Falls back to Private Cloud Compute (Apple-only cloud) when needed โ still private.
๐ฒ Why On-Device Matters
Fast responses. No round trips. Most features (like summarizing emails or rewriting texts) happen right on your device.
๐ Even cloud-based tasks go to Appleโs own servers โ encrypted, private, and verifiable. No user profiles. No storage. No ads.
๐ค What Model Does It Use?
Apple uses its own LLMs โ and optionally integrates ChatGPT for broader queries. Youโre asked before anything is shared.
๐ก Opt-in only. You stay in control.
๐ง Siri 2.0: A Smarter Assistant?
Siri now:
Summarizes messages
Edits tone in drafts
Finds photos from weeks ago
Sends emails โ all by voice
It's context-aware and built on Apple Intelligence. Not perfect, but a major leap.
